Early Life
Marshall Mathers grew up in and around Detroit, Michigan, where he began rapping as a teenager and competed in the city's underground battle scene.
Career
Dr. Dre signed him to Aftermath Entertainment, and The Slim Shady LP (1999) launched his career, followed by The Marshall Mathers LP (2000) and The Eminem Show (2002). He starred in the semi-autobiographical film 8 Mile (2002), and its song “Lose Yourself” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, making him the first rapper to win that award.
Legacy
Eminem has won 15 Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
