Early Life
Federer grew up near Basel and turned professional in 1998 after winning the junior Wimbledon title.
Career
He won his first major at Wimbledon in 2003 and went on to win eight Wimbledon titles, six Australian Opens, five U.S. Opens and one French Open. He spent a record 237 consecutive weeks ranked No. 1, and won Olympic doubles gold in 2008 and singles silver in 2012.
Legacy
Federer retired in September 2022 after the Laver Cup in London. He was widely admired for his fluid style and sportsmanship, and founded the Roger Federer Foundation to support education in Africa and Switzerland.
