Early Life
Dane grew up in San Francisco and moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting.
Career
After early television guest roles, he played Dr. Mark Sloan, nicknamed “McSteamy”, on Grey's Anatomy (2006–2012), then starred as Tom Chandler in the TNT drama The Last Ship (2014–2018) and as Cal Jacobs in HBO's Euphoria.
Legacy
In 2025 Dane disclosed that he had been diagnosed with ALS. He died on February 19, 2026, at age 53, survived by his wife and two daughters.
