Early Life
Scorsese grew up in Manhattan's Little Italy, briefly considered the priesthood, and studied film at New York University.
Career
His major films include Mean Streets (1973), Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990), The Departed (2006), for which he won Best Director and Best Picture, and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023). He has received numerous Academy Award nominations.
Legacy
Scorsese founded The Film Foundation in 1990 to preserve classic films, and received the AFI Life Achievement Award in 1997 and the Kennedy Center Honors in 2007.
